Alloy 600 (also known as Inconel 600 or UNS N06600) is a nickel-chromium-iron alloy. Its chemical composition is tightly controlled because it's designed for excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength.

Composition Benefits
High Nickel (≥ 72%)
Provides excellent resistance to many corrosive media, especially caustic environments (e.g., NaOH), and good performance in chloride-containing environments. Ensures stability and toughness at both cryogenic and elevated temperatures.
Chromium (14–17%)
Forms a protective chromium oxide layer that resists oxidation and scaling at high temperature. Improves resistance to oxidizing acids and hot gases.
Iron (6–10%)
Helps with mechanical strength and cost reduction compared to pure nickel alloys, while maintaining good corrosion resistance.
Low Carbon, Sulfur, Phosphorus
Limits carbide and inclusion formation at grain boundaries, improving weldability and resistance to intergranular corrosion.
